Raiser's Edge Migration Checklist: Guide - Alignmint nonprofit software

Raiser's Edge Migration Checklist (2026)

Raiser's Edge NXT is Blackbaud's enterprise fundraising CRM, and moving away from it involves more than exporting a single file. Your data may live across multiple Blackbaud products, gift coding is detailed, and custom attributes need careful mapping. This checklist covers what transfers and where to plan extra review. For a full feature comparison, see Alignmint vs Raiser's Edge NXT.

What You Can Move

  • Constituent records (donors, organizations, households, relationships)
  • Gift and transaction history
  • Fund, appeal, campaign, and package labels
  • Pledges and recurring gift commitments
  • Selected notes and constituent attributes
  • Solicitor and relationship assignments

What Needs Review

  • Blackbaud product boundaries (constituents, financials, and giving may be separate)
  • Gift coding and custom attributes that need a clear crosswalk
  • Open pledges and recurring commitments that need careful handling
  • Records that should stay archived for audit history rather than import
  • Contract terms and data export rights before you begin
  • Wealth screening and prospect data, which may not be portable

Migration Checklist

  1. Audit your Raiser's Edge data. Run constituent and gift counts. Note duplicate or deceased constituents, inactive funds, and attributes you can retire before import.

  2. Confirm contract terms. Review your Blackbaud agreement for data export rights and contract end dates so the timeline lines up with your renewal.

  3. Export constituents. Pull donor, organization, and household records with relationships, addresses, and contact details.

  4. Export gifts and coding. Download full gift history with funds, appeals, campaigns, and packages. Build a crosswalk that maps each code to your new fund structure.

  5. Review custom attributes. Document the custom fields your team actually uses, and decide which carry over to Alignmint's donor management.

  6. Set up fund designations. Create your fund structure in Alignmint's fund accounting before importing gifts so each donation lands in the correct restricted or unrestricted fund.

  7. Import and validate. Upload your mapped files. Confirm constituent and gift counts match your audit, spot-check fifteen records, and verify pledge balances and gift coding are correct.

  8. Reconnect giving and integrations. Update payment processing, email tools, and any links that pointed to Blackbaud Merchant Services or other products.

  9. Train your team. Share logins, walk development and finance staff through the new interface, and confirm major-gift records and reports are in place.

  10. Decommission Raiser's Edge. After a parallel-run period, confirm your final export is archived, then close out your Blackbaud subscription per your contract.

Timeline and Support

Raiser's Edge migrations usually take two to four weeks because of gift coding and custom attributes. Alignmint confirms which records can move before any import begins, then maps your constituents, gifts, and funds with a pre-import report. For what Blackbaud products actually cost, see Blackbaud pricing.

Bottom Line

Moving from enterprise fundraising infrastructure to an all-in-one platform means constituents, gift history, fund accounting, volunteers, and events live in one place — without separate subscriptions for each capability or multi-product reconciliation.
