Background Checks

Background Checks is an operational Tools hub app—not a field you edit manually on each profile. Alignmint initiates Checkr invitations; candidates enter sensitive data directly in Checkr. Alignmint stores status, timing, and audit fields only—never SSNs, report PDFs, or raw Checkr payloads.

What You Can Do

• Switch between volunteer and staff tabs with summary tiles (not started, invited, in progress, needs review, cleared, expired)
• Send a secure Checkr invitation when status allows and Checkr is configured
• Filter and search the current result set; export Excel with status and expiration dates
• Highlight checks expiring soon for renewal outreach

Status Overview

Common statuses include invited, candidate submitted, in progress, needs review (Checkr consider), cleared, expired, invitation expired, canceled, disputed, and request failed. Legacy pending/failed rows may still appear from older data.

Common Tasks

Invite a volunteer to complete a check

1. Open Tools → Background Checks and select the Volunteers tab.
2. Confirm Checkr preflight shows ready; request buttons stay disabled when provider keys are missing.
3. Send invitation; Minties deduct on success and refund if provider creation fails afterward.

Good to Know

Adjudication happens in Checkr when status is needs review—Alignmint does not decide pass/fail inside the app. Cleared checks expire on a configurable schedule (default roughly two years) with reminder jobs.

When Checkr is not configured, the UI explains that no Minties will be deducted and invitations remain disabled. Pair cleared checks with Volunteer Settings requirements for sensitive activities.
