Householding

Group donors at one address—typically spouses—to recognize combined giving and reduce duplicate campaign mail. Households keep separate donor records.

Householding is available on All plans with Donor CRM. Combined totals and mail rules follow the household on Free through Enterprise. Tax receipts stay on each gift. Year-end household statements are not available.

Open the household action on a donor profile. One dialog covers Link Household and New Household. Pick a role (head, spouse, child, or other) and mark the primary contact used for mail.

What You Can Do

• Create a household or link an existing donor with a role
• Set the primary contact used when campaigns skip duplicate mail
• View household members and combined giving on the profile
• Export household columns from Donor CRM or run Household Giving

Common Tasks

Link spouses after a joint gift

1. Open either donor profile in Donor CRM.
2. Click the household action and choose Link Existing or Create New.
3. Assign roles and mark the primary contact. Combined totals refresh.

Send one email per household

1. When composing a Fundraising email campaign, turn on household deduplication on the recipients step.
2. AlignMint sends to the primary contact when one is set.

Good to Know

Householding is not the same as Merge. Merge combines duplicate person records. Households keep separate histories while sharing recognition and mail. Recurring gifts stay on individual donors.

Organization-type donors cannot join households. Marking a gift as anonymous for public recognition does not hide the donor from householding, Donor CRM, or accounting. See Donation Receipts.

Household totals stay with the fund where the donors live. Campaigns that run on one fund do not combine households from other funds. If you work in more than one fund, pick the right fund before you search or edit a household.
