Recurring Donations

Recurring gifts are the backbone of sustainable fundraising. They provide predictable revenue month after month, making it easier to plan programs, pay staff, and budget with confidence. Alignmint makes it simple to set up, manage, and grow your recurring giving program.

Setting Up Recurring Gifts

1. When adding a donation, toggle "Recurring"
2. Select frequency: weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly
3. Set the day of month or week for processing
4. Optionally set an end date (or leave open-ended)
5. The first charge is processed immediately, then repeats on schedule

Managing Recurring Donors

• Active Subscriptions: View all active recurring donations in one list with amount, frequency, and next charge date
• Pause or Cancel: Temporarily pause a subscription or cancel it entirely
• Update Payment Methods: Help donors update expired or declined credit cards
• Change Amounts: Increase or decrease the recurring amount without creating a new subscription
• Failed Payment Recovery: See which payments failed and take action to recover them

Donor Self-Service

Donors can manage their own recurring gifts through the Donor Portal without contacting your office. They can:

• Update their credit card or bank information
• Change their donation amount
• Switch from monthly to quarterly (or any other frequency)
• Pause giving temporarily
• Cancel their recurring gift

Automatic Accounting

Every recurring charge automatically creates a donation record, updates the donor's giving history, generates the appropriate journal entry, and queues a receipt. No manual data entry needed.

Growing Your Recurring Program

Use Donor Journeys to automatically invite one-time donors to become monthly givers. The "Monthly Donor Upgrade Ask" template nudges recurring donors to increase their gift after 6 months of consistent giving.
