Check Deposits

Check Deposits helps you turn mailed gifts into posted donations quickly. Photograph or scan checks, confirm the details Alignmint reads from the image, and batch them into bank deposits that match what your treasurer takes to the bank.

What You Can Do

• Read donor name, amount, check number, and date from check images
• Match gifts to existing donors or create new profiles on the spot
• Build deposit batches that align with your bank slip totals
• Review past posted and in-progress deposits in one list

Common Tasks

Process a stack of mail gifts

1. Open Fund Accounting → Check Deposits.
2. Scan or upload each check and confirm the suggested donor match.
3. Add the gifts to a deposit batch and post when the batch is complete.

Find a deposit from last month

1. Scroll to Deposit history below or filter by date.
2. Open the deposit to see every check included and its posting status.
3. Export or print the list if your auditor asks for support.

Deposit history

Deposit history shows prior check and mixed batches with dates, totals, and status (draft, posted, or reconciled). Use it when finance needs to answer "which gifts were in the March 12 deposit?" without opening each donor record separately.

Posted deposits stay linked to the underlying gifts, so reversing or researching a single check starts from the deposit row and drills into the donation detail. Cash-only batches live under Regular Deposits; this history focuses on check batches and combined workflows your team runs from the check deposit screen.

Good to Know

Alignmint reads check details automatically; handwritten amounts may need a quick human review. Each posted gift updates donor history and can queue a receipt when auto-send is on. Check numbers help during bank reconciliation when the item clears your account.
